FRVD RUNNING athlete Marissa Coombs defended her Women’s Showdown Mile title at the 2026 Trials of Miles Montclair Mile, winning in 5:10 after taking the title in 5:05 the year before.
On Thursday, August 6, FRVD RUNNING made its way to Montclair, New Jersey, for the 2026 Trials of Miles Montclair Mile.
The Montclair Mile is built differently than a typical road race. Runners compete in separate heats, then move to the course to cheer for everyone else. It becomes a night where racing, community, and a full block-party atmosphere all meet in the same place.
FRVD came to race, support, debut the new Galaxy Singlet, and be part of it. At the center of the night was Marissa Coombs.

Two Years.
Two Wins.
Marissa returned to the Women’s Showdown Mile as the defending champion. One year earlier, she took the win in 5:05. This year, she did it again.
Marissa crossed the line first in 5:10, defending her title and giving FRVD RUNNING back to back wins in Montclair.
A title defense is not about recreating the exact same night. The field changes. The conditions change. The feeling on the line changes. You still have to show up ready to compete.
Marissa did exactly that. The result is a reflection of the work that happens long before race day. The miles that do not make the highlight reel. The consistency. The discipline. The days when you train because you said you would.
The Galaxy
Singlet Debut
Montclair also marked the official debut of the FRVD RUNNING TEAM Galaxy Singlet.
For the first time, the team raced in the new singlet across the Montclair Mile program. The design showed up exactly where it was meant to: on the start line, through the final stretch, in the relay, and in the post-race photos with the team together.
The Galaxy Singlet represents the competitive side of FRVD without separating it from the community that built it. It is made for race nights like this. A team showing up prepared, representing one another, and putting the work on display.

Still Stands
FRVD returned to Montclair with history already attached to the 4×800 relay.
In 2025, Daniel Clavijo, Marissa Coombs, Max Kahn, and Nathaniel Hirschman won the relay in a 9:05 chip time, setting the course record that still stands today.

This year, FRVD came up short of another relay victory, finishing eighth in 10:05 with Jason Russack, Katherine Castaño, Marissa Coombs, and Max Kahn. That is part of racing too. Not every night ends with the result you want. But the standard stays. You come back, learn from it, and keep building.
More Than
A Mile
The Marissa win was a major moment, but it was never only about one person. FRVD showed up as a team. Runners raced throughout the evening. Friends supported from the course. The singlets were out. The energy stayed high from warmup through the final event.
A running club is built through the regular miles, but it comes alive in moments like this. When people who train together get to represent one another in a different setting. When a runner steps to the line knowing there is a crew in their corner. When the finish is shared.
For Marissa, the story was a second straight Women’s Showdown Mile title. For the team, it was the Galaxy Singlet debut, another relay chapter, and a reminder that the work is worth documenting.
